Sim Registration and Activation

1. What is SIM Registration?

SIM card registration is a required process during the purchase of SIM cards from telecommunications operators.

2. When do you we need to do SIM Registration?

This is a requirement from the government (PTD: Post & Telecommunications Department) and MPT will comply with the instruction from the government. Customers are required to register their SIM Cards with their Name after purchase the SIM.

3. Why must we register our Numbers?

According to a government instruction, all SIM cards are required to be registered.

4. What Information and documentation do I need to make registration?

Customer’s Name, and original and copy of national registration card (passport for foreigners) which was issued by Myanmar Nationality Law.

5. Will my information be kept safe?

Yes, all of the information received by the operators is safe as there will be no other use except for the purpose of registration.

6. Do I need to register under contracted sale from MPT in the past?

If current user is the different from the name mentioned in the contract the holder of SIM is required to register.

7. Can I register Multiple cards?

As per the announcement from Post & Telecommunication Department, starting 1st April 2019, 2 MPT SIM per NRC  can be registered.

8. How can we check our registered SIM Cards with my name?

Customer can check dialing * 601 # and if customer’s SIM registration information is not correct, Customers can update the information at MPT 4U Application or care.mpt.com.mm or visit MPT Own Shop in their respective township to get help with SIM registration.

9. What will happen if have not registered the SIM?

MPT services cannot be used without registration.

10. How many MPT Own Shop, Branded Shop and POS?

106 MPT Own Shop, 158 MPT Branded Shop and nearly 100,000 POS nationwide.

11. Will customers be charged for data connection used to download MPT4U Application?

It’s free for downloading MPT 4U Application by dialing *4040#. Downloading MPT 4U Application at Apple store / Google Play store would be charged.

12. Can customer check by calling 106? Will 106 disclose registered customers’ particulars?

Customer can check if the SIM was registered correctly or not by calling 106. . In case operator of 106 will ask customer to tell information such as name and/or NRC ID to verify.

13. Can customer amend the registered particulars through 106?

Customers can not amend the registered information through via 106.

14. Where customer can amend the SIM Registration?

Customers can visit to MPT own shop in your township to get support regarding SIM registration and also visit MPT’s customer self-care website (care.mpt.com.mm) or MPT4U for update information.

15. What is USSD for SIM Registration?

USSD is the fastest way to check SIM Registration information for MPT Customers.

16. How is it work?

Customer can check * 601 # for SIM Registration. The function is currently available. Customer will receive a confirmation message (SMS) first and then receive an SMS again immediately. In the message, you will be able to check whether their MPT SIMs have been registered with their NRC (National ID) and if the information does not match, you can access the information through SMS link.

17. How we can know SIM Registration is finish or not?

Calling to *601# will then show whether the SIM card is registered on the user’s phone’s screen. If you are not yet registered with your name, you will need to re-register with your information correctly. You can check at MPT 4U or Self-Care webpage at https://care.mpt.com.mm/ and MPT Own shop.

18. Is there a cost?

There are no charges.

19. Who can use it?

All MPT Customer can dial *601#, except those customers using CDMA.

20. If Sim registration haven’t done within deadline, 30 th April, what will happen?

After April 30th 2020, SIM cards which are not properly registered using a legal name and proper identification such as NRC Number for Myanmar Citizens or Passport for Foreigners, as well as for customers who have more than 2 SIM cards registered under the same identity, these SIM cards will be moved to “One-Way Block Stage” where outgoing calls, SMS, Data and all chargeable services are blocked except to contact 106 Call Center.

21. Even after One Way blocked, can we register our SIM cards?

Even after a SIM card has entered the “One Way Block Stage”, customers still have a chance to re-activate it by updating the SIM registration with accurate information using MPT4U App (or) MPT’s customer selfcare website (care.mpt.com.mm) (or) call USSD *601#  before 30th June 2020. However, if a SIM card is not properly updated during these 2 months (May and June) , it will be terminated. (Data Channel required for online sim registration)

22. After One Way blocked, If SIM card updating haven’t done yet, what will continue happen?

If you haven’t registered your sim card properly after One Way Blocked, it will be terminated by the end of June, 2020.

23. How can we know my NRC ID had been used by others?

Customers can visit and get support at the nearest MPT Own shop & office with the help of MPT’s staff. (need to bring your NRC original)

24. : If someone registered sim cards with my NRC ID , how will you manage more than two Sim cards with the same NRC ID ? (Or) More than two Sim cards won’t be allowed to register ?

As per the announcement from Posts & Telecommunications Department, only two (2) SIM cards for each operator registered under the same identity (NRC) can be registered. Customers can visit and get support at the nearest MPT Own shop & office with the help of MPT’s staff. (need to bring your NRC original)

Sim Activation

1. What steps need to make for activation?

Making First Recharge 20,001 Ks is only one step to make SIM activation.

2. If First Recharge top-up amount is below 20,001 Ks, what will happen?

Below 20,001 Ks top-up will be unsuccessful. Unsuccessful notification will be received.

Getting Started

1. How much does it cost for new MPT SIM Card?

You can buy a new MPT SIM Card with 1,500 Kyats at MPT own shops.

2. What is First Recharge – New SIM Activation?

You need to make first recharge at least 20,001 Ks for SIM activation. If you make first recharge 21,000 Ks and above top-up amounts, you can get 1,000 Ks bonus balance.

4. Is there First Recharge Bonus?

Yes, there is 1,000 Ks First Recharge Bonus with 60 days validity for 21,000 Ks and above top-up amount.

5. How can I use bonus balance?

Bonus balance can be used for Anynet Voice and SMS PAYG and Data PAYG.

6. What steps need to make for activation?

Making First Recharge 20,001 Ks is only one step to make SIM activation.

7. What is the validity of bonus balance?

Validity of bonus balance is 60 days from the date of First Recharge.

8. If First Recharge top-up amount is below 20,001 Ks, what will happen?

Shal Pyaw

4. Can I purchase Data Packages on “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

Yes, MPT Data Packages are available on “Shal Pyaw” Plan also.

5. I don’t want to be charged higher data rate. What can I do?

MPT offers variety of Data packages – you can enjoy data service with affordable rates.

6. Can I enjoy other value added services on “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

Yes. Current Value Added Services (Balance Transfer, Yuu Htar, CRBT, etc) remain the same on “Shal Pyaw” Plan.

7. I have Data Package Quota in my current plan. If I switch to “Shal Pyaw” Plan, what will happen?

You can carry over your Data Package Quota to “Shal Pyaw”. Moving to “Shal Pyaw” will not affect on your data packages.

8. I am Postpaid user, can I subscribe to “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

Yes. Please dial *235*3# to subscribe.

9. Is there any restriction to switch to “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

All active MPT GSM/WCDMA user can switch to “Shal Pyaw” Plan. But subscription is allowed maximum 1 time per one calendar day.

10. I am a Base Tariff user. Can I subscribe to “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

Yes. Just dial *234*3# to subscribe to “Shal Pyaw” Plan.

11. I am a Base Tariff user. Can I purchase Data Packages?

Base tariff users cannot purchase Data Packages. Please switch to Swe Thahar or Shal Pyaw Plan or Shwe Zagar first and purchase Data Packages.

12. I am a CDMA user. Can I subscribe to “Shal Pyaw” Plan?

No. CDMA users cannot subscribe to “Shal Pyaw” Plan.

13. I activate new SIM card, which plan will be with me?

“Swe Thahar” Plan is the default plan for new SIMs. But you can easily switch to “Shal Pyaw” by dialing *234*3#.

14. I cannot switch to “Shal Pyaw” Plan. Why?

Since subscription is allowed maximum 1 time per one calendar day. If you have switched plan one time in one calendar day, you cannot switch again on that day. Please try again next day.
If your SIM is inactive (One-way block/Two-way block), you cannot switch the plan. Please recharge your balance first and try again.

15. How can I check my Plan/Tariff?

You can dial *224# or access through MPT4U app to check your current plan or send BAL to 1331.

16. I am on “Shwe Pyaw” Plan. When I made a call to MPT number for 5 seconds, 20 seconds was charged. Why?

Starting from 31st Oct 2022, all local calls except for Base Tariff will be charged at every 20 seconds.

Swe Thahar

2. How can I switch to other price plan?

5. I am on “Shwe Zagar” Plan. When I made a call to MPT number for 5 seconds, 20 seconds was charged. Why?

5. Which services prices have changed during the promotion ?

12 .I purchased Roaming rate cutter pack with 7 days validity and I want to purchase roaming pack with 7 days validity before expiring previous roaming rate cutter pack with 7 days validity. How will it happen?

You cannot buy roaming pack with 7 days validity before expiring previous roaming rate cutter pack. You need to wait until previous roaming rate cutter pack expires.

13.Do the rate cutter pack allowed to multi-subscription ?

No, the rate cutter pack does not allowed to multi-subscription.

14.Is the above mentioned tariff applicable only for Data services ?

 Yes, This tariff is applicable only for Data Services, and Voice/SMS services would be charged at standard tariff

15.How will i know, that the package is successfully subscribed ?

When the subscription is successful, you would recieve the confirmation notification through SMS.

16. Do i need to subscribe to package before i travel oversees to these destinations ?

You can purchase this package in Myanmar or from overseas (in these countries).

17.If i don’t want to subscribe to this 9Ks/MB package, do you have any other promotion to these destinations?

18 . What if the package is expired ?

When the package is expired, you would be informed through the notification. If you don’t wish to renew your package, you will be charged at promotional paygo rate of 15Ks/MB.

19. Why i am not able to buy the package ?

There can be below reasons, and the resolution

  1. Not enough balance, please topup and try again
  2. Base tariff customer, pls change your tariff plan by dialing, *234*4# (shwe zagar), *234*3# (shal pyaw) or *234*2# (Swe thahar).
  3. Already active roaming data pack

20. I purchased Roaming Pack (10000 Ks/800 MB with 7 days validity) and I want to purchase roaming rate cutter pack with 7 days validity before expiring previous roaming pack. How will it happen?

You cannot buy roaming rate cutter pack before expiring previous roaming pack. You need to wait until previous roaming pack expires.

21 .How will i know that my subscription is expired ?

You would recieve the notification through SMS.

22 .What is the pulse for data usage during roaming ?

The pulse for data usage, while roaming is 50KB.

23. Can I use loan balance on international roaming to make calls, send SMS or use internet data?

No, loan balance cannot be used on international roaming calls, SMS and data.

Change from Postpaid to Prepaid

1. What is change from Postpaid to Prepaid Service?

It is the payment method change from Postpaid (issue invoice after usage month) to Prepaid (Top up).

2.Where/How can we apply to change from Postpaid to Prepaid?

Starting from 1st Nov 2019,

  • The Mobile customers who are in YGN city to visit and apply the change request at the 40th Street Commercial office, Sule TRA, Ahlone TRA and Insein TRA.
  • The Mobile customers who are in region to visit and apply the change request at the nearest regional Commercial offices.
  • The PSTN customers who are in YGN city to visit and apply the change request at the 40th Street Commercial office.

5.What documents is needed for changing Postpaid to Prepaid?

Attachment 1: NRC card copy

6.Do we need to pay any charges?

Prerequisite payments from customers before migration Postpaid to Prepaid

  1. All Outstanding invoices
  2. Advance payment to cover upcoming invoices
    • Totally 3 times of previous month’s bill; if customer apply & make all payments between 1st to 6th of the month
    • Totally 2 times of previous month’s bill; if customer apply & make all payments between 7th to the end of the month

7.How long will take to change from Postpaid to Prepaid?

After completing the application and payment process, MPT will complete the request within one working day.

8.What is the process if we have remaining balance in Postpaid account after settle the invoice amount in the next month?

After Postpaid to Prepaid changing complete, MPT will manage customers’ Prepaid balance i.e. we will deduct Prepaid’s balance in case the paid advance payment cannot cover the pending bill. In case there is remaning amount from the advance payment after the pending invoice settled, we wiill transfer the remaining amount into Prepaid balance for that customer.

MPT U-Life

1. What is MPT U-Life?

MPT U-Life is digital insurance service exclusively designed for MPT SIM users which offers the ZIWAKA health insurance policy and Thet Taw Saunt personal accident insurance policy, customer can buy the products with MPT extra benefits.

2. What are the values of using MPT U-Life digital insurance service?

ZIWAKA Health insurance is to cover for hospitalization related with diseases (Including COVID-19) and accident, THET TAW SAUNT Personal Accident Insurance is to cover only for accidents matters such that hospitalization related with accidents and unable to work due to accident. 7. What is the basic price on each insurance?

You can start ZIWAKA Health Insurance from 5,600 MMK (Based on your age group), and THET TAW SAUNT Personal Accident Insurance from 1,250 MMK.

Yes, customer can buy both insurance products based on your coverage requirement.

10. How can I buy the product?

Through MPT platform customer can choose required product and click “Apply ZIWAKA” or “Apply THET TAW SAUNT” for each product purchase.

11. How can we pay?

Customer can choose two payment methods as MPT Pay and MPT mobile balance payment. Please be noted to maintain enough balance to buy the insurance certificate.

12. How can we claim for benefits?

Sim Validity

1. Does MPT SIM have an expiration date?

  • MPT SIMs have an expiration date. SIM card must be registered after purchasing. After registration, Customers have to make the first call/SMS/ USSD or by topping-up to activate the SIM card within 180 days.
  • Customers have to top-up within 60 days to continue using their SIM.

If a top-up is not made within 60 days, the SIM card will move to “One-Way Block Stage”, where customers can only receive incoming calls. All outgoing calls, SMS, Data and all Chargeable Services will not be available.

Customers can top-up within 30 days to re-activate it.

If a top-up is not made within 30 days, the SIM card will be moved to “Two-Way Block Stage”, where both incoming and outgoing calls, SMS, Data and all chargeable services will not be available.

  • Customers can top-up within 60 days to re-activate it. However, if customer do not make any top-up within 60 days, the SIM card will be fully decommissioned and moved to “Cooling Stage”. Customer have to visit to MPT Own Shop within 60 days to apply for reactivation.

• After exceeding of 60 days, the SIM card will be moved to “Recycle Stage” which will be reallocated to a new customer and the phone number will be disassociated from the SIM card and it will be reassigned to a new customer.

2. How to increase my SIM validity when it is low?

You can Top-up and for every top-up your Balance Validity will be increased to 365 days as illustrated below

3. I am Postpaid customer; does my SIM also have a validity?

Postpaid user SIMs do not have Validity and will remain active at all time.

4. How can I check my SIM validity?

Dial *124# OR Send SMS “BAL” to 1331.

5. What will happen if I do not Top-up for 365 days?

After 365 days , SIM will be blocked and will remain blocked if you do not top-up.

In First 30 Days, SIM will be “One-Way Block Stage”, where customers can only receive incoming calls. All outgoing calls, SMS, Data and all Chargeable Services will not be available.

In next 60 Days, SIM will be moved to “Two-Way Block Stage”, where both incoming and outgoing calls, SMS, Data and all chargeable services will not be available.

6. I cannot call other numbers but can receive calls (although I have balance). Why?

Please send SMS “BAL’ to 1331 (Free of charge) to check your SIM validity. If your SIM validity is 0, your SIM was blocked because you did not top-up for 1 year. Please top-up to reactivate your SIM.
